Randomised controlled trials (CASP)

This one day workshop, run along CASP principles, introduces the concept of the randomised controlled trial (RCT) and the techniques used to control bias when testing new treatments. The workshop includes a practical exercise critically appraising a published RCT, and plenary discussion of conclusions drawn in small group work. The CONSORT statement and supporting evidence are introduced at the end of the workshop and copies provided for participants to keep.

An example of an RCT will be provided, but participants are welcome to suggest trials of interest to them for use in the critical appraisal exercise.

No prior knowledge is required, but this workshop can be tailored to the needs of participants and delivered at any level required.

Workshops can be booked by emailing karen.biddle@bham.ac.uk or metasurv@mail.com
